Dullah Jullah!

Dullah jullah is a phrase the family uses to express chagrin, disgust, disappointment, etc. and it seems particularly apropos this evening. Don't you just hate it when your schedule is thrown off? I was in a curriculum meeting until 4:25 today which in turn backed up the time I got to Shari's. I then had to go to the grocery store (the Salad Club began again this week and my day is tomorrow--bok choy Asian salad, yum!) and by the time I got home it was already 5:30. I raced around trying to do something about dinner, but we still didn't have food before 7:00 and I was trying to cook the chicken and crisp up the crunchies and clean the kitchen and get the greens together and well, I ran out of time. I looked at the clock and I was WELL passed Lily's, er, I mean "Belle's" bedtime (she hasn't even seen "Beauty and the Beast"! Where does she get this??).

Thank goodness she decided to go down with little fuss. We read "Good Night Baby" (one of her and Hannah's favorites) and she was ready for sleep. Hooray! I was dreading it as she is always such a bear if we miss her window. Apparently we didn't miss the window by too much tonight. In fact, not only did she go to bed without incident, she cleaned up her messes beforehand without being asked! Of course, I'm asking for it by even writing this...;o)

Brien made it home sometime before 8:00 last night, sans luggage. He doesn't usually check his luggage for this very reason and wouldn't have done so this time except he was informed they had no room on-board and he had no choice. Now, this no luggage thing would have merely been an irritant except for what occurred later in the evening. You see, they found his luggage and very generously decided to deliver it at 1:00 this morning. Again, this wouldn't have been a problem except they decided to CALL before delivering. Yes, folks, I was awakened from the soundest sleep I've had in quite some time so Brien could give the guy directions to the house.

You know, when the kids wake you up, you can kind of stumble and bumble about and usually return to sleep in fairly quick order. When the phone awakens you from a dead slumber, you are so wired it takes forever to get back to sleep. The adreneline is pumping and you are left rather shaky and wide-eyed for the next thirty minutes. Ugh.

So, I've finally gone back to sleep, again, sleeping deeply when the stupid phone rings AGAIN!! You have GOT to be kidding me! It was 3:30 and the same guy was calling, letting us know he was on the porch with B's bags. B told him to please leave the bag next to the red car in the driveway (which he had told the guy three times during the previous phone call, mind you) and the guy said, "Oh, sorry, wrong number! I'm in Hampton."

Are. You. Kidding. Me?? Needless to say, I was not in the best frame of mind this morning. Now, I can certainly feel sorry for the guy having to be out delivering luggage in areas with which he is unfamiliar, being from Richmond and all, but did he really have to wake me from a sound sleep, twice? Ugh!

Brien and I talked this evening and decided Blacksburg just isn't in our future this weekend. We had so wanted to go and visit with Han on her birthday, but I think we are both a little travel weary and just want to stay home as a family this weekend. We will go to the FM and walk the wilderness trail by the house and enjoy the nice autumn weather that is on the way. I'm still not quite sure what we are going to do otherwise. Maybe Lily and I can make a birthday cake and a card for Hannah. I don't know.

I do know I've been missing her something fierce the past few days. I've been terribly weepy and sad and seeing the second graders at school leaves me wondering how big she would be now and what she would be doing. What would her interests be? How big would those permanent teeth look in her mouth?

The missing, it really never goes away, does it?

Today's Sparklies:

1. The weather was so pleasant, even with the light rain we had today. Typically such a light rain would cause nothing but oppressive humidity to go with the heat. Today, with the cooler temps, it was lovely. :o)
2. Brien's home!
3. Lil was quite lovely today and this evening--not that she isn't usually, she was just especially funny tonight. :o)
4. Brien's luggage is home. Yay!
5. Deb, Lissie and Nana have all placed SU! orders with me. Thank you SOOOO much, ladies! :o)
6. I placed my first demo order as well and can hardly wait for it to arrive! :o) Yee ha!

No milestones today.

I'm once again left feeling like a dog chasing my tail as I've got so much grading to do I don't think I'll ever find the end of it. :sigh:

In other news, I figured out a funny way for the kids to remember dipthongs today. We are having a very difficult time with vowel pairs, vowel digraphs and dipthongs. You know the old "Witch Doctor" song? You know, "Oo ee oo ah ah, ting tang walla walla bing bang"? Well, we sang, "Oy oi ew ou ow, bump bump oy oi ow ou". LOL! The "bump bump" represents the sound you would make falling down the stairs since the kids said "oy oi ew ow ou" sounded like someone falling down the stairs. Sure, why not? :o)

And, this is yet one of many reasons I just LOVE to teach! :o)

I feel your frustration about being woken twice in the night. There really is nothing more unsettling than the phone ringing in the early hours of the morning. I always assume it must be some kind of bad news!

Yay for you on all the SU! orders!! I can't wait to see what you create with all your new stuff.

I'm sorry you won't get to visit Hannah this weekend and I know you were really looking forward to it. I'm sure you will come up with a wonderful idea to mark the occasion *hugs*

Sending hugs. It sounds like you are enjoying teaching and that is great!

The missing? I am not sure if it goes away or not. Mine hasn't. Pushed to the back sometimes but always there.

You also know that you don't have to 'visit' Hannah. She is with you always. Take a breathe and smile because you know this.

Sorry about the luggage craziness and interrupted sleep! Boo! I think it is a good idea to lay low this weekend. I am sure that you all will still find creative ways to celebrate Hannah. Yes, the missing never does go away...

We know that you love to teach - that love is all over your blog! :) I hope it is a great day!

Your sadness just aches in my heart some days. On one hand, I think your job has to be a blessing, but other times I can't imagine being surrounded by those children after having lost one of your own. I so admire your courage and how you embrace the good and the bad. ~Kellie

I'm with Kellie -- what she said. Thinking of you this week, hoping it is more full of good memories than loss.

I love how enthusiastic you are about teaching! I wake up and feel very lucky to be in the classroom, too. Today, though, I'm home with my kindergartener, who has a very bad ear infection. Gotta get off the computer and go snuggle. Hang in there!

Insanity! I would have lost my mind. Don't mess with my sleep.

Sorry about the weekend. :( I know you'll find something special to do to honor the day.

Hugs!

No, Rachel, the 'missing' never really goes away...sigh...wish life were different for you, but I'm so glad you knew your Hannah for as long as you did. Make a cake and a card for her and don't forget to sing 'Happy Birthday' to her. My little boy is in second grade this year and I don't know how I would ever, ever, be able to live without him. You have shown great courage and bravery in the past year with everything you and your family have been through. I can only think "what an awesome woman"! I feel priveleged to know you, if only by your blog. Prayers and Hugs are coming your way today. Hugs, Aunt Bea

Hi Rach~

Just checking in, work is keeping me too busy to blog! I just read your blog form your weekend trip and man, I could inhale some Cracker Barrel right now. Even though you won't get to Blacksburg this weekend, I am so glad you were able to enjoy a long nice, but busy weekend to the Cascades. I really need to get there some day.

Sometimes a weekend at home just feels good, so I hope you sure do enjoy it.

I've already got my special birthday cupcake for Hannah located for her upcoming special day. :-)
